Scope: The 6 Finance Business Units in Flanders and Wallonia

Location: Brussels (Belgium)

Strategic Challenge

In the light of the liberalisation of the European energy market, a program was set up at Benelux level to develop and implement a Shared Service Centre (SSC) integrating the Finance departments of 6 Business Units.

This program was launched in order to:

  • Further develop the quality level by strengthening and professionalizing the finance function and establishing a sustainable strategic partnership with its internal clients.

  • Contribute to the cost reduction objectives that were set for the support functions.

Assignment

  • Set-up this Shared Service Center

  • Coach the Program manager and the 6 Finance managers in this integration

Approach

1. Reviewed and assessed the current way-of-working


2. Developed the future Shared Service Center (SSC) in co-creation with the respective stakeholders:

  • Best practice processes

  • Aligned roles & responsibilities and function descriptions

  • Required workload

  • Aligned organisational design and structure

  • Governance system with aligned objectives and dashboards

  • Aligned behaviours for the desired SSC culture

Results

  • Quality improvements in line with customer's needs

  • 20% efficiency improvements

  • One Finance Shared Service Center

  • Aligned objectives with strategy

  • Better decision making due to improved project data

  • A learning culture of continuous improvement
